Born and in Boston, Ga, Keith was met with many obstacles from the moment he took his first breath. Despite having to be in and out of hospitals, doctor offices, and periodic surgeries, Keith Jenkins has not once allowed his issues to stop him from reaching his goals. As a proud graduate of Thomas County Central High School, Keith proved his theory true that nothing is impossible with the right attitude and the right guide.
In an interview, Keith expressed why he chose to run for State Representative , saying "It has a lot to do with the way I was raised. There was always a sense of community and everyone had a hand in each other's successes. We helped one another. Today, people all around us are hurting and doing poorly and only a small group is doing fine."
His background is extensive. From serving in Operation Desert Storm in the U.S. Army to serving as a church elder in a local assembly, Keith has been able to experience life at its highest point as well as at its lowest. He understands what it means to work in a factory and not be able to make the money stretch far enough to supply your family's needs; he's experienced it. Being promoted only to find out that the cost of insurance is too high that it looks as if you're still at the beginning, he's experienced it. Trying to understand why minimum wage is not the same as a living wage, he's been there, too.
In his quest for better, Keith holds an associate's degree in business administration and social work, as well as a bachelor's of science degree in social work. He is a full time husband, father, and Papa. His desire to help empower others has led him to work in the areas of community support activist, career placement coordinator, youth intervention coordinator, as well as volunteering for a local youth group that helps to mentor at risk teens. To add further, he is also a small business owner.
"If we have something to offer graduates in their field, they will stay here. They will marry here and, they will raise their families here. Education is vital, too. There are ways of retaining students, we've just got to get our teachers the resources and funding they need to do so."
Keith is confident that if we transform these two key areas, poverty levels will go down. We can do it. It is just going to take a little working together from all parties.
"What we are facing is not a BLUE or RED problem but a people problem."
His passion is clear and his voice is loud. Keith Jenkins, Sr. has the drive, the heart, the knowledge, and the skill set to meet the challenge at hand.
The middle class counts on good schools, good jobs and a fair shake. Keith Jenkins will stand up to extreme politicians in Atlanta who gut our schools and raise our taxes to pay for more corporate handouts.
If we join together and make our voices heard, we can fight for the change we want to see!
